Significant amounts of snow and ice expected this evening into tonight as a deepening low pressure system tracks east northeast along the Carolina coast.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 am EST Tuesday.

• Locations: include the southern, central, and eastern Piedmont, including Albemarle, Asheboro, Siler City. Raleigh, and Louisburg.
• Precipitation types, brief period of snow or sleet late this afternoon, transitioning to freezing rain this evening.
• Accumulations: A Trace to one inch of snow and sleet accumulation followed by one quarter to one half inch of ice accumulation.
• Timing: through Sunrise Tuesday morning.
• Impacts: roads will quickly become snow and Ice-covered this evening. Significant ice accumulation will have the potential to result in downed trees, power lines, power outages, and property damage. Safe travel will become impossible late tonight and Tuesday morning.
• Winds: northeast 10 to 15 mph.
• Temperatures: in the mid to upper 20s.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow. Sleet, and ice are expected or occurring. Travel will become very hazardous or impossible. Only Travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, blankets, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
